Nae jokes nor hu'hin'.......

Ah'm bein' serious. (Sorry)

Diz any o' youse clever fowlk ken how ye go about getting a relative in England "sectioned" under the Mental Health Act - for her own sake?

It's depression...... So bad, she cannae even get her act together enough tae organise a trip tae the doctor, and if the doctor goes tae her, she'll no answer the door. Things have got so bad that, unless she gets help fast, she's gonnae be homeless by early November. We (or other relatives) could offer her help, but she never answers the phone and never opens her post. When confronted wi' things she disnae want tae think aboot, she simply retires tae bed and goes tae sleep for  a coupla days. (Aye, ye read that right. She goes tae sleep for days at a time.)

She still seems to have some contact with her niece who keeps the rest of us informed but who is at her wit's end wi' it a'.

She needs help forced on her.

Like I said, I'm not joking. How do we go aboot forcing her tae get the help - which even she herself agrees she needs?

Thanks for the replies, folks.

I've been in touch with CAB and with another charity (cannae even remember its name right now.)

The immediate problem - impending eviction - might no be as pressing as feared.

The situation is this.

She lives in a hoose in England that was owned by her late mither. Her late mither spent her last years in a nursing home, and noo the cooncil wants 45,000 tae pay for her time there.

It's the cooncil that's trying tae force the sale o' the hoose. However - if I've understood the advice right - if the hoose is lived in by anywan whit's disabled, unner sixteen or ower 60 (as she is) they're legally obliged tae disregard the hoose in their attempts tae get thur munt. They huv tae look at ither options. (Thur's nane.)

That maybe solves the scary eviction bit o' ra problem for noo, but it still leaves her out of the loop for medical/psychiatric help and the attention o' social services, but at least it gives us a bit of time tae sort these matters oot.

Again, thanks for the replies. I'll let ye ken how things pan-oot.

Ah ken whit yir goin through Dosser, but ra law wud be a wee bit different ah guess.
Here we can agree to have a relation committed fer treatment uf ra mental health folk agree we should.
Ben goin through it ra last year.

Got hur sorted, on ra richt meds, then ra daft bluidy coo gets inta ra terps, drives & gets caught.
Twice ra legal limit; thir gonna throw ra buik at hur.

Watch oot fer them diving on ra hoose Dosser, if she has tae go inta care though.
Wur daft rellie had ra street smarts tae put ra hoose in a Family trust soo when she was in care they cuidnae take it to defray cost.
