I advise you not to get lost in Edinburgh, 'cos it's hard to find a local to give you directions.   Oh yes.     Laughing

Well it's ok as long as you can understand their English accents

Withoot wishin tae upset the panda  - an efter aw.. whit cruel-hertit bastart wid wish tae upset a panda? - Rutherglen's other name is Ru'glen - pronounced tae rhyme wi "strugglin"

Nearby Cambuslang is Cumzlang
And Blantyre is Blan'er
An in that vicinity is the place cried Halfway - or more usually " Haufwey"
Wishaw is Wishy

East Kilbride is just East Kilbride, cause it's no interestin enough for a nickname.

hahaha.  Smile    Well, first there were many foreigners, then there was someone all very Barbour jacket and with daft bunnet, whom I guessed to be English so I thought, that's fine, more chance he's resident but he was also a tourist, French I think,  and eventually met a wee wumman (with shopping bags or some sort of appearance of being local) and asked her for directions.

"Excuse me, please could you ...... etc"

"But ah dinnae come fae here, ye ken."

"AHA!   (Makes happy noises like an explorer discovering things or like Archimedes' 'eureka')    But you are from near-ish here, eh?  I am sad lost foreigner from Glasgow, so you must know much more directions than I do.      Oh go on, gonnae give it a try.....".

The poor woman probably made something up just to get rid of me but she did help.  Smile    And I did get to meet up with my friends.    In the pub which was NOT bloody called what I had been told it was called.  I'm sure some of the earlier people might have advised if I had been asking for the right name.   Huh.      Embarassed

It was a daft day anyway - I was meant to go to a Demo thingy at Calton Hill but trains were doing stupid things and I got there when most folk had gone, hence heading for the plan B meetup.

Aye well, when I met up wi my brothers for a light refreshment in Glasgow recently, one brother almost refused tae go anywhere but the Horseshoe Bar, eventually admittin that he wantit tae go there because it was aboot the only pub that still hud the same name as when he last lived in the vicinity - aboot 20 year ago.

Even the neds in Embra appear tae huv an allure of poshness aboot them
ozneil

My relatives always referred to Rutherglen as "Ruglun" and East Kilbride as " ra villij" or "eekay" .  They lived in Nerston and also had a farm at ra Alice .  (Auldhouse)  they spoke "Lallands"

Gees &  I thought youz spoke English....came as quite a shock lots of gutrrrral grunts, growls and missing constanants

PS I was introduced here by Heidie  a good cyber friend.  I had packed in FF yonks before about the same time as B3 & H2
