A lottae ra percieved problem wi JRs is in ra socialisation o thum. If ye establish yersel as alpha dug early, an mak shure ra beastie hus plenty chances tae meet folk an aminules as soon as poss, thur shuidna be a problem. Awso, they need amusin, if they gets bored yer in trubble, they need toys an cumpny annol. Mind Jack Russels is verra bright, energetic an feisty wee dugs, they need ye tae set limits an be consistent. JRs, an dugs in genral, isny solitary critturs. If ye huvny time tae be wi thum, ur yer oot a lot, get a cat.

BRW. Wuv nivver hud ony bother wi ours an maisty thum hus bin rescue dugs wi a damned puir stert in life. Wan ur twa hud sum serious behavioural problems fan we got thum, but a few months wi us an they wis fine.

I have heard many tales of dugs that went for folk not right in the head.

Why do they do that? And how do they know??

Laughing  Laughing  Laughing   Naw, I think the way it works is that the cat jumps up to the very high places and sits on top of the door or the curtains and laughs at the dog and the dog gets exercise jumping up like an eejit. Smile

I don't know, but recently there was some stuff about dogs being able to sense cancer in humans, and anout dogs brought into retirement homes being able to identify who would be leaving soon.

There was also a story about a cat that behaved oddly when it's epileptic  owner was about to have a fit. The owner could never feel the onset of a fit and his family could never see one coming on - but the cat used to come in, sit near the epileptic and stare at him fixedly. The epileptic owner and his family started to take this an an early and accurate warning system.

Ah have seen this ability in many of the dugs we owned over the years.
They could seem to sense sickness before it hit.
I think it is a change in the smell the body gives off.

The retirement home one was a cat (maybe called Lillian?) who would suddenly become unremovable from the side of certain people. They would snuff it within the week. The folk in the home found this oddly comforting as most of them a)were quite happy to go b) appreciated knowing it was the last day or two and could take appropriate actions and c) they never died alone, that cat was with them. They said she was an angel.

The cancer one is really interesting, I would love to see more research going into this. It started from the many many stories of people who had a close bond with their dog. The dog would suddenly become interested in a particular mole and try to scratch it off, or would lick it incessantly. When they eventually go to the doctor - surprise surprise, cancer, cut it off. This was then taken further in proper studies using various methods and trained hounds. t is awesome to watch. The dogs can detect cancer before the more advanced laboratory test, whether from urine (prostate, bladder, renal etc, maybe cervical?) or the one I find amazing - if you blow into a special tube with bits that trap the exhaled stuff - lung cancer. Its quick, cheap, non-invasive and the specificity and sensitivity are greater than current "scientific" methods.

so Lab test and Cat scan are the way to go!
