Best Poem I've Ever Read

Tam O'Shanter, it's perfect

Here is the first verse:

When chapman billies leave the street,
And drouthy neibors, neibors, meet;
As market days are wearing late,
And folk begin to tak the gate,
While we sit bousing at the nappy,
An' getting fou and unco happy,
We think na on the lang Scots miles,
The mosses, waters, slaps and stiles,
That lie between us and our hame,
Where sits our sulky, sullen dame,
Gathering her brows like gathering storm,
Nursing her wrath to keep it warm.

Astoundingly good.

De yea no think ut a wee bit misogynistic---jist a tad yea ken.

Aye but he awso sais:

Epigram On A Country Laird, not quite so wise as Solomon.

   Bless Jesus Christ, O Cardoness,
   With grateful, lifted eyes,
   Who taught that not the soul alone,
   But body too shall rise;
   For had He said "the soul alone
   From death I will deliver,"
   Alas, alas! O Cardoness,
   Then hadst thou lain for ever.

Dug help ye if ye got oan ra wrang side o him. He hud a sharp tongue anna sharper wit.

Ah prefer Holy Willie's Prayer. The satire on Calvinist doctrine cuts tae the bone.

No.......not a tad or a wee bit, thon very scene might very well have been a weekly happening......mibee the man was well aware of the hurt he was putting the poor woman through and expected her tae vent her spleen in any way she found appropriate......however she dealt with it was something he accepted and mibee he loved her the mair......ah hope.

Can ony o' youze tell me why a; his dochters wiz ca'ed Elizabeth?

(Or huv Ah got thon bit wrang? Ah cannae mind where Ah read it.)

Wid that be his first born ? Ah'm thinkin the lassie was named Elizabeth Paton because Paton might have been the family name of the Mother. Am no sure how many others he fathered afore he became a married man.
