Basically this is for the Wahine

I was reading the autobiography of the reired boss of thw Australian Army, Peter Cosgrove and came across this beautiful piece of one up-manship.

We & the Kiwis had sent troops to East Timor to act as peace keepers. It was not an easy assignment  so to help cheer the troops up Peter asked the Australian Rugby Union if he could send both of the World's most prestigous cups ie Bledisloe Cup , (Australia New Zealand) and the Tri-Nations Cup (Australia New Zealand & South Africa) which Australia had just won over to East Timor to show them off to the troops to help lift morale.  This was done much to the pleasure of the Oz troops & the booing & hissing of the Kiwi troops.

Time passed & a few years later Peter retired. As happens on these occassions people sent him nice letters of contratulations etc. Amongst these letter was a VCR from the General commanding the NZ army saying how wonderful it had been working with Peter.  He didnt say a word about the Bledisloe Cup & thw Tri-Nations cup prominently displayed behind him.

Just before Peter retired he did a tour of most of the places Australian troops were serving. His son, also Peter, was serving as a rifleman in East Timor.

When Peter Senior  arrived there he had to inspect a Guard of Honour with all the pomp & ceremony that entailed. He was about half way inspecting the Guard when a voice from somewhere at the back yelled out  "Hi Pete yer Dad's here"   General Cosgrove said it spoke volumes for the discipline of the Guard that not a smile was cracked so he of course couldnt either although the rest of the audience cracked up.
